Reviews!

Today I'm sharing links to some recent reviews of my work.

First is a review of Glass and Gardens: Solarpunk Summers, featuring my story Riot of the Wind and Sun.

The reviewer was less than enthused by the book (which is available for preorder in ebook here and paperback here), but they describe my story as "pleasant, if undramatic" and I want that on a t-shirt. It sums up my life so well.

Then there's this review of Earth Music (free to read at Syntax & Salt), which is very positive.

Finally, a review of Do-overs and the other stories on the GlitterShip podcast this month. I'm so happy people are enjoying this story in particular because it's one of my absolute favorites.

It's still so bizarre that people I don't know are actually reading and reviewing my work, but I love it.

Glass and Gardens: Solarpunk Summers Cover Reveal

Morning, all! I have a cover reveal! It's pretty and colorful and contains my words!

Glass and Gardens: Solarpunk Summers, an anthology edited by Sarena Ulibarri, will be published June 5th.

Solarpunk is a type of optimistic science fiction that imagines a future founded on renewable energies. The seventeen stories in this volume are not dull utopias—they grapple with real issues such as the future and ethics of our food sources, the connection between technology and nature, and the interpersonal conflicts that arise no matter how peaceful the world is. In these pages you’ll find a guerilla art installation in Milan, a murder mystery set in a weather manipulation facility, and a world where you are judged by the glow of your solar nanite implants. From an opal mine in Australia to the seed vault at Svalbard, from a wheat farm in Kansas to a crocodile ranch in Malaysia, these are stories of adaptation, ingenuity, and optimism for the future of our world and others. For readers who are tired of dystopias and apocalypses, these visions of a brighter future will be a breath of fresh air.

My First Reprint Publication!

Last summer, my very short story Do-overs was published on Spectrum Lit https://www.patreon.com/posts/do-overs-by-lee-12473810 (It's the one about the dorky bisexual time travel with a crush on Ada Lovelace.)

And today, it was published on GlitterShip, an LGBTQ sci-fi and fantasy podcast! (My story starts at the 20 minute mark, but listen to the others, too. They're very good.)

I'm so excited to show this story off again. I just love it so much.

(And I'll be back on Monday with a Glass and Gardens cover reveal!)

Proof Copy!

I got my proof copy of Anachronism this week! For those of you who, like me until very recently, don't know what that is, a proof copy is when your publisher sends you a physical copy of the book so you can find all the typos you missed.

I'm sure there's some sort of psychological phenomenon going on here, but ask any writer and they'll probably agree that the eye catches mistakes on paper that it skimmed over on screen.

At this point, it is only a slight exaggeration to say I have read Anachronism infinity times. It's got to the point where I can point out the exact words and punctuation that we changed in editing because I've accidentally memorized large portions of it.

And yet I still found commas out of place or the wrong words used... I even spontaneously switched to the British spelling of "rumor" and didn't catch it! (I'm blaming that one on accidentally absorbing the spelling of my British editor.)

But I have a physical copy of my book and it's amazing and I just can't believe it.

And the Kindle version is now available for pre-order!

Anachronism Cover and Release Date!

I am thrilled to finally reveal the cover and release date of my novella ANACHRONISM! It's going to be published by Kristell Ink, an imprint of Grimbold Books, on June 1st! If you want to be part of my release tour, or if you're a reviewer who wants an ARC, sign up here!

Very early on in the editing process, I was asked if I had any ideas for the cover. And I did not. So I asked my mom, who was SUPER HELPFUL and asked if I could change the main character's name to something like Green and just make the cover green.

So I asked my aunt instead. She had actually read Anachronism, and we identified a few key symbols of the story: time, broken glass, and a pendant of a winged woman.

There isn't actually a broken pocket watch in the book, but this seemed like the best way to incorporate all of the symbols, so we sent that idea off to the editor and artist (who's named Jen Gossman, by the way), and look at what they came up with!

Anachronism is the same old story: Time traveler meets girl, time traveler tells girl she's the future president, time traveler and girl go on a road trip to prevent a war...

Petra Vincent is at the end of her rope - or rather, the edge of a bridge. Her world is falling apart around her and she sees no way out of the meaningless existence the future has in store. But when
stranded time traveler Moses Morgan tells her that she will one day lead the country out of the rubble of a nuclear civil war as President of the United States, she's intrigued - and when another time traveler starts trying to preemptively assassinate her, she realizes Moses might be telling the truth...

Anachronism is a time-traveling, adventure-filled novella with a whole bagful of danger, twists, and snarky banter.

Expect to hear me talking about this book a LOT over the next three months, as well as some changes to my site. I'm so excited to introduce the world to these characters!
(Oh! Also, my book also got a blurb in this month's issue of Far Horizons e-mag https://www.facebook.com/farhorizonsemag)
