When I was younger, I used to make dollhouse miniatures. I don't really have the time or the physical energy to do entire rooms like that anymore, but I still want to make things with my hands. So in 2022, I bought a broken Qui-Gon Jinn action figure (Liam Neeson's character in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace) from eBay with the intention of fixing him.
"Fixing" him, I should say, because I didn't want to return him to mint condition and find him a new Lightsaber to replace his broken one. No, I wanted to fix the mistake they made in the movie when they didn't have his character fall in love with Shmi Skywalker, who he clearly had chemistry with.
And now that's led me to making my own action figures of my favorite Star Wars and Marvel characters. Enjoy.
Qui-Gon and Shmi.
I replaced his Lightsaber with a bouquet of roses and made her by repainting a princess cake topper.
Wanda Maximoff.
This doll, originally a character from the animated series Spirit Riding Free, got a haircut and style, as well as a new shirt and coat to recreate Wanda's Age Of Ultron outfit. The pants and boots came with the doll (so did the coat, although I altered it significantly), and the necklace is painted on.
Billy and Tommy Maximoff
The end of WandaVision broke my heart, so I decided my Wanda will always have her babies with her. These guys are Mini Magic Nursery figurines from the 90s that I painted to match their costumes in the Halloween episode.
Darcy Lewis
Despite being awesome and one of my favorite characters, Jane Foster's assistant from the Thor movies doesn't have her own action figure somehow? So I had to make my own out of a Polly Pocket. I colored her hair, which was originally pink, and painted on her shirt, jeans, shoes, and sleeves. The body of her jacket is a Polly Pocket dress, turned around and with the skirt cut off. I bought the glasses on Etsy, and crocheted the hat with embroidery thread.
Logan
This X-Men figurine was originally in the blue and yellow color scheme from the comics. I completely repainted him, as well as giving him a beard and, not visible in this photo unfortunately, dog tags to make him more accurate to the movies.
Madisynn
This character from She-Hulk began life as a blonde Polly Pocket wearing a pink dress. I painted her to be a brunette in a lilac dress, and gave her the little cocktail I bought online.
Mobius
JetSki Dreams Mobius began life as a lifeguard Ken doll from McDonald's. I painted him to look more like Owen Wilson's character from Loki, and gave his JetSki a Loki themed paint job. I painted the little soda can (bought on Etsy) and the alligator is from a Play Mobil play set.
Ant-Man and Wasp
I think the Ant-man movies are the perfect opportunity for Marvel to introduce super teeny tiny old-school Polly Pocket size action figures. But if they won't, I'll do it myself.
Scott and Hope are model railroad figurines that I painted. I bought them in bulk, which was cheaper but ultimately a bad decision because now I have 98 extra model railroad people in various poses. I bought the ant at the thrift store in a Ziploc bag of random plastic animals.
